I don’t normally do reviews. I have always hated getting reviews on any Darkslinger title, even when they are glowing positive.
I don’t normally do them but when given the chance to review Dancing With The Dragon I made an exception and I am glad that I did. I made the exception because Rob MacKinnon is the writer on this particular book and I have quickly gained an appreciation for this up and coming talent.
Dancing With The Dragon is a fast paced action crime thriller told in a non-linear way. This story instantly evokes feelings of early Tarantino in all the right ways. Luca Casalanguida’s artwork is expressive and extremely easy to read. The colors by Natalia Nesterenko and the lettering by Joel Rodriguez compliment the artwork perfectly. The entire team on this comic feel as though they are perfectly in sync.
The only complaint that I have is that there is one panel that uses a real world image that does not mesh with the art. While this wasn’t enough to take me out of the story, it did cause me a momentary pause.
Overall this is a fantastic first issue that I would whole heartedly recommend you read. I am eagerly awaiting the next issue.
