Darkslinger to do benefit print for Chile

Darkslinger Comics to release print for Chilean earthquake relief
Darkslinger Comics in conjunction with artist Macro Roblin will be releasing a print to raise donations to benefit the victims of the Chilean earthquakes.

Molalla, Oregon. April 13th, 2010. Darkslinger Comics will be releasing a print with artwork by Chilean artist, Marco Roblin to benefit the victims of the 2010 Chilean earthquakes.
The print is fully rendered by Marco and features two of Darkslinger flagship characters, David from Ghost Assassin and Le Mime from El Bovine Muerte. One hundred percent of proceeds will go to help the Chilean organization, Un Techo Para Chile (A roof for Chile).

The print will first be debuted at the Stumptown Comics Festival (Portland, OR April 24th-25th). After that Darkslinger will continue to sell the print through various conventions in Oregon and Washington as well as online at http://www.darkslinger.com/

Artist Marco Roblin states that this is the most important piece he has done. In his own words "this (the earthquake) was a huge blow. Both physically and emotionally, having the opportunity to do this piece gives me a chance to contribute in the healing process. We had a choice between doing something with some humor or something directly related to the earthquake. In the end, we chose humor as during this time the images of pain and destruction are so clear in our minds that doing a retelling of that would be a bad tribute."

The print will be sold strictly on donations, meaning that anyone can buy one no matter the amount they have to donate. Of course, higher donations are appreciated as they will go further in recovery goals, but small donations under ten dollars will still help and are still very much appreciated.

Captain Cure Bike team...

The staff at Captain Cure Comics has created a bike team to take part in Jackson's Ride The Gorge, and event taking place in Hood River on July18th. The Ride is a fundraising event for the Northwest Sarcoma Foundation (http://www.nwsarcoma.org/). As many of you may be aware, my good friend Ty Wakefield (creator of Captain Cure) has been fighting Osteo-Sarcoma for the past several years. This foundation has helped Ty, as well as countless others, deal with this dreaded disease. My buddies Tony (Gunbaby) and Jason (NeoTrash) are also quoted several times in the story. Overall the show was very fun. The turnout was a lot smaller than in previous years and it could have been better organized, but overall it was fun.

Ghost Assassin breaks the top 25

Ghost Assassin finished the month of January in 21st place on Drive Thru Comics (comics.drivethrustuff.com). While the Pauper didn't quite make the top 50, it did finish at a respectable #62, making both of the books top 100 downloaded books. Darkslinger Sneak Peek

Stumptown

Darkslinger Comics will be at the Stumptown Comics Fest (www.stumptowncomics.com). The show will be a 2-day event this year. Held on Friday, October 27th from 4pm-8pm and Saturday, October 28th from 10am-6pm. I will put up an update when our table number has been assigned.

Independents Day!

A new revolution has started. Check out http://independents-day.blogspot.com Jason Berek-Lewis has started a new movement to try and get indy comics into more people's hands. I for one think this is a great idea and fully support it. Although I read several Marvel/DC/Dark Horse titles every month (mostly X-MEN I admit-although I do get just about everything else in trade), I do try to buy at least one smaller press title every time I go in a shop. I will post some reviews on these titles in the next few days. Have picked up many great titles as of late, including Super Real #2, Atomika #1-6 and a few lesser known titles. Will be updating more in the next few days.

Over this past weekend I got the chance to visit a few more shops. Check out www.darkslinger.com/shops for a up to date list on shops where you can find Darkslinger Comics titles. I have recently sent copies of our books to www.independentpropaganda.com, I will update on when the books become available through them. Darkslinger Comics will be attending the Eugene Comics convention on May 21st. Be sure to stop by and say hi. We may be at the Olympia Comics Festival as well, just need to make sure which day it is first (website has two different days depending on which page you visit).

Sketchbook

Darkslinger Comics Sketchbook volume 1 is now out. The first sketchbook features character designs, unused pages and raw pages from Ghost Assassin and The Pauper. Featuring work by Charles Carvalho,
Federico Zumel, and Eve.

MORE POSTERS

Two more posters and one more print are on their way. Should be getting them tomorrow. The print features the "City on Fire Pauper" image and the posters are of the "Ghost Assassin Family Photo" and "Ghost Assassin: Melissa". Poster and more

I received the Ghost Assassin: David poster from Ka-Blam earlier this week. Ka-Blam continues to impress me. Went to the Portland comic con last weekend. The whole thing was fairly boring. In my opinion this is a con that has been slowly dying for the last several years. I only bought from one table, dropped $59 at Things From Another Worlds booth. Got some great Hellboy and Goon TPBs. One interesting thing I picked up was a postcard from Super Real. On the back it had an advertisement for clubflyers.com advertising 5,000 postcards for only $150. After checking it out I found out they will give you a set of 1,000 postcards for free if you pick up the shipping. After shipping charges it works out to $0.055 a piece. Not a bad deal. I plan on having some postcards printed through them to hand out at cons, comic shops and send out with my eBay orders. Hopefully that will drum up a little more awareness.

RECEIVED

I received the first batch of Ghost Assassin comics from Ka-Blam yesterday. I may be a little biased, but I think they look great! I wasn't sure if I should go with color because of the extra cost, but man am I glad I did! Makes it look just that much cooler. I am already sold out of about 50-60% of the initial run. Luckily I put in a reorder a few days after my first order. It finished and shipped this morning along with the Posters I made from the image of the Prelude cover.
